* Learn theory, technique, how to create your own basslines, and play along with a drummer. Ear training, improvisation, reading, and much more are also covered. I'll do my best to teach you in an enjoyable, no pressure way.
* All lessons are geared to the type of music you like to play, but what you learn can be applied to any style of music. I'm very patient, and excellent with children and teens.
* My lessons are very informal (I still want everyone to enjoy them) but very thorough and practical. We'll start off with fingering techniques and progress to blues patterns (which are the basis for most types of popular music today) and the theory behind them, so you'll be able to modify them and make them your own - not just play them note for note. I'll also do extensive rhythm exercises with you playing along to a drum machine, and show you how you can build your own basslines step by step. We'll also listen to various basslines on CDs and figure them out note for note, examine the theory behind them, and then rewrite them so they are hopefully better then the ones recorded (or if not better, at least different). I'll show you how different fretboard fingering patterns (of scales and blues patterns) will produce different musical ideas. I'll also teach you some shortcuts for getting into songwriting. Whatever I teach is very practical, and can be used immediately in the real world, for any style of music. There is much, much more to what I do, and couldn't possibly put it all in an ad.
* I'll set-up (adjust) your instrument so that it plays as easily as possible at no charge. I'll also teach you basic maintenance, setup, and repair, so you can keep your instrument in top condition (without having to pay a repairman).
* If you're just starting out, I'll help you pick out an instrument and amplifier while explaining the differences of each one. If your a more experienced player, we'll discuss what's available, so you'll be able to make the best possible decision when purchasing a new piece of equipment.
* I have reasonable rates and a flexible schedule. I can teach you in one of three locations - at my home in Brooklyn (Brighton Beach), at a midtown Manhattan music studio (West 36th St. and 7th Ave.), or at your home. We can talk about what's best for you.
* If it's inconvenient for you to go home and get your own bass, you can use one of mine for your lesson. I know how busy most people are these days.
* I'll be happy to provide you with references of current students. You can talk to someone already taking lessons from me. I encourage you to do this.
* Please email (bassguitar@hotmail.com) or call (347) 445-7873 to discuss your needs. If you get my answering machine, just leave a message with the best time to call you back.
* Thank you!
