*VOICE LESSONS* for Jazz, R&B, Pop Singers!

All lessons will be individually planned based on what each student would like to focus on. The lessons can focus on any or all of the following: vocal technique for Jazz, R&B and Pop singers; exercises needed for jazz singing and improvisation; basic music theory; help with building repertoire; and vocal health.

Students can choose to take lessons at my home, or I can come give lessons to you at your home! The only thing necessary is a piano or keyboard.

Thana Alexa is a graduate of the New School University where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Jazz and Contemporary Music and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. Thana studied for many years with renowned speech therapist and vocal coach, Kate Baker, and has learned many techniques necessary for the growth and strength of vocal development as well as for vocal health and care.

Thana has been an active bandleader and sideman in both New York and Europe's jazz circles. She has toured extensively in Croatia and it's neighboring countries with both Croatian and international groups as well as performed in New York City with her own quintet and as a sideman with other groups. When living in Croatia Thana gave private voice lessons to students in junior high school and elementary school and was also a teacher's aid at a jazz workshop. She has had the opportunity to record with Bernard "Pretty" Purdie (known for his work with Aretha Franklin and James Brown among others), and has performed with renowned musicians such as Lenny White -- known for his work with Chick Corea -- Buster Williams -- a Miles Davis alumnus -- and George Colligan - known for his work with Cassandra Wilson. In July 2010 "Siena", one of Thana's original compositions, was nominated by the Croatian Music Academy, PORIN, for Best Jazz Composition, which appeared on the album nominated for Best Jazz Album. This nomination is an enormous honor given that these awards are considered the country's equivalent of the Grammy. In August 2011 Thana won the Jazzon Alpe-Adria International Competition for Composers for her composition, "Ode to Heroes". The Masters Award given to Thana Alexa includes a European tour that will take place later in 2012.
